Subaru has officially released the new 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX in the US which receives a power increase of 41 hp from the previous version. Another version of Impreza released is the 2.5GT model which is powered by a 224 hp turbocharged intercooled engine.

The new 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged intercooled Boxer engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission to produce 265 hp at 6,000 rpm and 244 lb-ft of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm, a significant increase compared to the standard 224 hp and 226 lb-ft from the 2008 model.

To get more power from the standard engine, Subaru engineers fitted the WRX with a larger turbocharger, larger diameter exhaust and low density catalyst for reduced back pressure. The power increment is in conjunction with the goal of the WRX team, termed “Kyo-Ka” (strengthening).

The new Impreza WRX features longer wheelbase at 103.1-inch, new double-wishbone rear suspension system, 17 x 7-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in 225/45R17 summer performance tires, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system and Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (DC3).

The 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5GT model meanwhile is powered by a 224 hp turbocharged intercooled engine mated to a standard 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT.

Both the WRX and GT are equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and are available in 4-Door and 5-Door models. As for the aero bodykit, the sedan and the 5-door WRX features STI type grille with WRX badge, front and rear under-bumper spoilers and aerodynamic side ground effects, low profile rear trunk spoiler for the sedan and WRX STI rear spoiler, a rear diffuser for the 5-door model, clear rear tail lamp lenses for the 5-Door and red lenses for the sedan, dual tailpipe outlets for the 4-door and single outlet for the 5-door.

The safety features for the Subaru Impreza WRX includes Subaru Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame body structure with front and rear crumple zones, a 4-wheel disc Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, 3-point seatbelts, side-curtain airbags and Subaru Advanced Frontal Airbag System (SRS).

Inside the WRX features WRX-exclusive carbon black checkered upholstery accented by red stitching, leather wrapped steering wheel with red stitching and aluminum-alloy pedal covers, performance-design front seats, electroluminescent gauges, 10-speaker audio upgrade with auxiliary input jack, projector-beam fog lights, dual-mode heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer.

Other features include navigation screen, an input for MP3 players as well as RCA-type video jacks, pre-wired for XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio, optional Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS), an AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD player and four speakers for the standard WRX, an AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer featuring MP3/WMA file capability for the WRX Premium Package, 10 speakers and SRS Circle Surround Sound, audio system switches on the steering wheel, an iPod or MP3 player audio input jack and an optional Audyssey MultEQ audio enhancement.
