Lotus Eigne Concept

David Fearnley, a graduate from the Transportation Design Course at Northumbria University, created the Lotus Eigne Concept which is targeted to young families and also to be a more practical sports car while still maintaining the Lotus experience.

The Lotus Eigne Concept is designed to be able to accommodate 2 adults and a child with the 3+1 seat layout which is made possible from the in-wheel electric motors that eliminate any obstacles on the floor plan.

The Eigne is powered by the in-wheel electric motors that provide rear biased four-wheel drive for better control while maintaining the rear-wheel drive feel. The electric motors are powered by batteries which are sandwiched in the floor pan to keep the batteries cool and for lower center of gravity.

Inside, the cockpit could accommodate the driver and two adult passengers with a baby seat located directly behind the driver. The car also features sporty and modern dashboard and lightweight carbon fiber and alcantara sport seats.

For better access to the car, the side section of the chassis was slightly lowered and the doors incorporate a section of the roof for larger access point to the Eigne’s center seat. The hatch at the rear was designed with bigger boot which could accommodate even golf clubs.

According to David Fearnley, the surfaces of the Lotus Eigne have been created to cover the package of the vehicle and to improve aerodynamics where the traditional bonnet has been eliminated and replaced by a large front wing that is formed into the bodywork. Air will be channelled through the windshield and then down the rear where it pushes through a ssubtle spoiler into the lip at the rear to provide extra downforce.
