August 7, 2008 by admin

Nissan has unveiled the all-electric and hybrid electric prototype vehicles where both are powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries.

The Nissan Electric Vehicle Prototype is based on the Japanese market Cube minicar and features a front-wheel drive layout and uses a newly developed 80 kW motor and inverter.

The motor is powered by the advanced laminated compact lithium-ion batteries installed under the floor without sacrificing either cabin or cargo space.

The advanced lithium-ion batteries is supplied by the Nissan-NEC joint-venture, AESC (Automotive Energy Supply Corporation) where it could deliver twice the electric power compared to conventional nickel-metal hydride batteries with a cylindrical configuration.

According to Nissan, the production vehicle will be introduced in 2010 and will have a unique bodystyle and is not based on any existing Nissan model.
